Why We Built This
Karpture was created with a simple mission: to make the invisible visible.
Direct Air Capture (DAC) is a groundbreaking technology that removes CO₂ directly from the air, helping us combat climate change. Yet, despite its potential, few people know how much CO₂ is actually being captured worldwide — or where.
Karpture solves this by offering real-time, transparent data on global DAC efforts. Our platform tracks operational facilities and shows live metrics of how many tonnes of CO₂ have been removed from the atmosphere. We believe that making this information accessible will raise awareness, drive accountability, and inspire action toward a more sustainable future.
How It Works
Karpture works by aggregating, verifying, and visualizing real-time CO₂ capture data from Direct Air Capture (DAC) facilities across the globe. We collect data through a combination of publicly available sources, direct submissions from facilities, and automated crawlers that scan for updates.
Our system uses proprietary formulas to calculate the cumulative CO₂ removed from the atmosphere. These formulas account for variables like facility capacity, operation uptime, and reported efficiency levels. The results are processed through a custom backend pipeline and stored in a real-time database that powers the live counters and facility dashboards you see on our site.
To ensure accuracy and scalability, we also leverage AI-powered validation tools. These tools help detect anomalies in reported figures and flag inconsistencies, giving us greater confidence in the data we display. Additionally, we use serverless functions and scheduled tasks to ensure that the metrics are continuously refreshed without manual input.
Behind the scenes, Karpture is built on modern web technology: a Next.js frontend, a Supabase backend, and edge functions that keep the experience lightning fast. Our architecture is designed to be scalable, privacy-friendly, and transparent — just like the carbon removal efforts we aim to highlight.
